Larry Marker
Marker grew up in southeastern New Mexico and built a working life around oil and gas, construction, farming and ranching.
Biography
Larry Marker grew up as one of six children of a union electrician, with his mother entering paid work while he was in elementary school.1 Now a grandfather and hunter, he says he wants young families to afford a household without both parents being required to work.1
Born in Hobbs in 1963 and raised in Roswell, he worked on farms and at gas stations before taking a drilling rig job at 17, while still in high school.1 After an oil industry downturn, he went into the garage door business and later worked for Overhead Door.1 His work has also included construction, manufacturing, farming and ranching.2
Alongside his business work, Marker says he has spent years studying law and government on his own.3 He sought the Republican nomination for state Senate District 27 in 2024.1 He won the 2026 U.S. Senate nomination through primary write in votes and appears by name on the general election ballot.4
His Senate platform calls for stronger border enforcement, expanded domestic energy production and closer oversight of federal recovery money.3 He says data centers should pay for their own power and water without shifting costs onto households.3 He faces Democratic Senator Ben Ray Luján, giving voters a choice about the state's Senate representation and its direction on energy and regulation.5
