Laura Jones

Jones is an Army mother who has worked as a housekeeper while running for Congress.

Biography

Laura Jones’s congressional campaign runs around another job: housekeeping in Sugar Land, with a reported five hour round trip commute.1 The Houston Chronicle reports that she added that work after her husband had a stroke.1

A Texas native, Jones has also worked in real estate and farming in San Jacinto County.1 In a 2022 interview, she said she and her husband had six children and had taught them to handle firearms safely.2 She originally lived in Houston before making her home in Coldspring with her family.2 Her current campaign describes her as an Army mother and small business owner.3

Her earlier political work included chairing the San Jacinto County Democratic Party and serving as a field director for the Texas Democratic Party’s rural caucus in state Senate District 3.4 Earlier campaigns also emphasized flood mitigation and internet infrastructure for small towns.4 This is her fourth House campaign; she lost the 2022 and 2024 general elections to Morgan Luttrell.5

Jones supports Medicare for All, a higher minimum wage tied to living costs and higher taxes on billionaires and large corporations.3 Her 2026 platform also includes fully funding education from early childhood onward, free community college and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement.5 She faces Republican Jessica Hart Steinmann.6
