Biography
Lisa Kinney recalls organizing a recreation center fundraiser that involved getting local ranchers to pose in swimsuits.1 The former librarian and state senator was born and raised in Laramie.2 She has three children, and says two have left Wyoming, a family experience she connects to her interest in creating jobs that keep younger people in the state.1
Kinney earned undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Wyoming and a master's degree at the University of Oregon.2 She directed the Albany County Library, helped win a bond issue for a new library and owned a business preparing aspiring lawyers for the bar exam.2 Her later work included more than twenty years advising employees of schools, hospitals and local governments about financial planning.2
She served in the Wyoming Senate from 1985 to 1995, including its Democratic minority leadership from 1993 to 1995.2 She also led the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce.2 In her current campaign, she emphasizes keeping public lands accessible and lowering health care costs, especially for rural communities.1
Kinney faces Republican Chuck Gray, Libertarian Shawn Johnson and Constitution Party candidate Jeffrey Haggit for Wyoming's single House seat.3 She supports congressional term limits, stronger Supreme Court ethics standards and reversing Citizens United.1 She also advocates international cooperation on artificial intelligence safeguards and limits on its demands for electricity and water.1
