Lizzie Fletcher, the youngest of three sisters, was born at Houston’s Hermann Hospital and lives in the city with her husband, Scott.1 She graduated from the city’s St. John’s School in 1993 before heading to college in Ohio.1

Fletcher earned her history degree at Kenyon College in 1997, then worked in business and nonprofit organizations before attending William & Mary Law School.1 She edited the William and Mary Law Review and graduated in 2006, beginning her legal career at Vinson & Elkins.1 She later joined Houston litigation firm AZA and became its first woman partner in 2015.1

First elected to Congress in 2018, Fletcher now serves on Energy and Commerce, with assignments covering health, energy and oversight.2 She helped lead the Mystic Alerts Act, which became law in October 2026 and establishes a framework for emergency alerts delivered by satellite.34 Its framework lets covered carriers decline satellite alerts with notice to customers and prohibits extra fees when alerts are offered.4

Her public priorities include flood protection, transportation and jobs.5 She supports abortion access and helped introduce a 2026 proposal to fund training in states where abortion is legal for obstetrics and gynecology residents based in states with bans.6 Her opponents are Republican Alexander Hale and Green candidate Espoir Ngabo.7
