Teixeira met his wife, Leigh, at Georgia Tech before baseball took him to the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees.
Biography
Mark Teixeira met his wife, Leigh, while attending Georgia Tech on a baseball scholarship; they now have three children.1 His father was a Navy veteran and his mother a schoolteacher, and his first professional baseball home was with the Texas Rangers.1
Drafted fifth overall in 2001, Teixeira went on to play 14 Major League seasons, earning three All Star selections and five Gold Gloves.1 He won the 2009 World Series with the New York Yankees and retired in 2016, then spent four years as a baseball analyst for ESPN.2
His work away from baseball has included managing his own investment portfolio, real estate investment and service on the Georgia Tech Foundation's board.2 The Heisman Trophy Trust selected him for its 2018 Humanitarian Award, recognizing scholarship endowments and support for organizations including DREAM, which provides education and youth programs in New York.3
In his first bid for elected office, the Republican faces Democrat Kristin Hook for the seat Chip Roy is leaving.4 His platform supports stricter immigration enforcement, expanded domestic oil, gas and nuclear energy production, congressional term limits and parental control over education.5 He also supports restrictions on abortion and wants to expand the DOGE effort to cut federal waste and spending.5
