Biography

Martha Fierro is a mother of five who has been married to her husband, Francisco, for more than 30 years.1 Born in Matamoros, Mexico, she came to the United States at seven with her mother and sister and became a naturalized citizen.2 She began working in health care at the Texas Medical Center at 19 and became the first in her family to graduate from college.1

Fierro attended Stephen F. Austin High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston in 2016.2 A bilingual minister, she directs Texas Rotunda Prayer & Worship and founded the SheSpoke mentoring program.1 Her campaign describes work connecting Houston churches and ministries with local civic and government activity.1

She says her team of more than 20 volunteers helped organize over 40 food drives in 2020 and 2021, with each event serving more than 200 families.1 Her public advocacy has also included organizing supporters of Texas Heartbeat legislation and bringing students, parents and pastors to state curriculum hearings.1

Her congressional platform emphasizes reducing household costs through spending restraint, supporting law enforcement and Border Patrol, and strengthening efforts against human trafficking.3 On health care, she favors greater transparency, competition and patient choice, while her education proposals emphasize parental involvement and partnerships between schools and communities.3 She is challenging Democratic incumbent Sylvia Garcia for Houston's 29th District seat.2
