Biography
Michael Alfonso worked construction while studying mathematics at the University of Wisconsin Madison, helping build houses, pave roads and pour concrete.1 After graduating, he married his high school friend, Evita Duffy, and returned to construction work in Hayward.1 They are now raising a daughter.2 Evita is the daughter of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who previously represented this district in Congress.34
Alfonso grew up in Wisconsin's Northwoods and Wausau, with family roots in Cuba.1 He describes his grandparents' departure from communist Cuba as central to how he thinks about freedom and economic opportunity.2 His professional work later included producing The Dan Bongino Show.1 He has also done part time accounting work for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hayward.5
His campaign emphasizes reducing federal spending and regulation, preserving President Trump's tax cuts and making homeownership more attainable for younger families.2 Alfonso also advocates support for manufacturing, family farms, domestic energy and rural roads and bridges.2
He favors school choice and protections for homeschooling, opposes abortion and assisted suicide, and supports banning congressional stock trading.6 His immigration platform calls for restricting immigration, including employment visa programs that he argues undercut American workers.6 Alfonso faces Democrat Fred Clark for an open seat because incumbent Tom Tiffany is running for governor.7
