Biography
Michael McGuire's working life has included the Marine Corps, the New York City Police Department and family law.1 A husband and father, he lives in Freehold Township and also serves in the Navy Reserve.21
He spent four years in the Marines before joining the NYPD, where he was a first responder on September 11.3 His civilian work includes divorce and family law, small business advice and tax practice.3 He has also previously run for a school board seat.1
McGuire told the New Jersey Globe that missing Reserve paychecks during the 2025 federal shutdown helped push him into his first congressional campaign.1 He argues that Congress should do its legislative work rather than leave service members facing that uncertainty.1 His proposed changes include congressional term limits and a ban on lawmakers trading stocks.2
He challenges Democratic incumbent Herb Conaway in a field also including Green Party candidate Steven Welzer and independent Ryan Michael Kelly.3 His platform calls for lower household taxes, reduced federal waste and more accessible veterans' healthcare, including mental health treatment.4 He also supports military readiness, training and modernization, alongside reducing delays and bureaucracy at the Department of Veterans Affairs.4 He also proposes removing the federal deduction cap for state and local taxes, and emphasizes Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst's regional mission.3
