Mail ballot lawsuit and its later withdrawal

In January 2026, the Supreme Court found that Bost had standing to sue over Illinois' mail ballot receipt rule.4 That ruling did not decide whether Illinois' ballot rule was lawful.5 In a July 2 radio interview, Bost said he was dropping the lawsuit.6 A public docket index records a July 17, 2026 notice of voluntary dismissal and lists the case as closed.7
