Mike Carey

Mike Carey remembers moving from Cincinnati to a farm in Sabina at ten, then taking animals to the county fair and playing football.¹ His mother and stepfather also encouraged piano lessons, acting lessons and school plays.¹ His musical interests now include classical music, jazz and the Beatles.¹

Carey earned a history degree at Ohio State, attended Marion Military Institute through an ROTC scholarship and served as a military officer.¹² He is a father of three and a grandfather, living in Columbus with his wife, Meghan, and their two younger sons.²

Before Congress, he spent more than two decades in the energy industry, including work as an executive.² He also worked as a coal lobbyist.³ He entered the House in 2021 and serves on the Ways and Means and House Administration committees.²

Housing affordability is among his priorities, including the proposed Workforce Housing Tax Credit Act, which would encourage rental homes serving households with middle incomes.⁴ He also advocates domestic energy production and fewer regulatory restrictions on the industry.² Carey faces Democrat Don Leonard, Libertarian Brennan Barrington and Gary Josephson on the printed November ballot.⁵
