Mike Kirchner

Kirchner is a retired pension consultant whose hobbies include skiing, catering family gatherings and volunteering at the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament.

Biography

Mike Kirchner's interests range from pension mathematics to catering gatherings for family and friends.1 The retired consultant lives in Highland Heights with Audrey and has two sons.1 He volunteers at the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament, runs three sports pools and skis.1

Originally from Tiffin, he earned an applied mathematics degree at the University of Akron.1 He joined the Wyatt Company, which was known as Towers Watson by the time he retired.1 His consulting career lasted thirty years and focused largely on evaluating pension plans.1 His travels have included climbs up Mount Elbert, Longs Peak and Half Dome.1

Retirement benefits are also a substantial part of his published policy work.2 His 2026 paper argues that Social Security's retirement and survivor benefits involve unsustainable promises and that workers should receive more direct warnings about possible reductions.2

Kirchner proposes stopping the accumulation of additional retirement benefits in 2027 and redirecting the employee portion of the relevant payroll tax into tax deferred retirement accounts.2 His proposal would initially retain employer contributions and leave the disability program unchanged.2 He is the Republican challenging Democratic Representative Shontel Brown in November.3
