Mike Minogue
Minogue grew up in a military family, graduated from West Point and served in the Army during Desert Storm.
Biography
Mike Minogue and his wife, Renee, raised five children in Massachusetts, and he lists running, strength training, coaching and skiing with family and friends among his interests.1 He grew up as the youngest of four children in an Irish Catholic family.1
Minogue graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1989 with an engineering management degree and served as an Army infantry officer.1 During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, he was a platoon leader and lead navigator.1 His civilian career began at General Electric Healthcare before he became chairman, president and chief executive of Abiomed, the Massachusetts medical device company.1
He led Abiomed for nearly 19 years, including its work developing Impella heart pumps and expanding its Danvers operations.1 In 2012, he cofounded MedTechVets to help veterans translate their military experience into civilian careers in medical technology.2 The nonprofit connects veterans with training, mentors and employers, and Minogue returned as board chair in 2025.3
Against Democratic Governor Maura Healey, Minogue emphasizes lower household costs, a temporary gas tax holiday and greater government oversight, including legislative audits.456 He remains on the printed joint ticket with Shawn Oliver, who suspended his campaign in October but could no longer withdraw from the ballot.7
Record and controversies
Abiomed settlement
During Minogue's tenure, Abiomed agreed in 2018 to pay $3.1 million to resolve federal allegations that meals for physicians improperly encouraged use of its heart pumps.8 The government alleged that managers approved expenses including unusually expensive meals, spouses' attendance and inaccurate attendee lists.8 Minogue was not named in the DOJ documents; he defended settling for patients and employees while emphasizing no admitted wrongdoing or liability.9 This was a corporate civil settlement, rather than a criminal conviction of Minogue.8
Running mate and current ballot status
In October 2026, Republican lieutenant governor nominee Shawn Oliver suspended his campaign after being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and related driving offenses; he pleaded not guilty on October 19.10 Minogue called for Oliver to suspend his campaign and said Oliver would not serve as his lieutenant governor.10
The Secretary of the Commonwealth's guidance, reproduced in an October 21 official town election notice, says Oliver remains on the Minogue and Oliver ticket because the withdrawal deadline has passed; if elected, he can decide whether to take the oath.7 The same guidance says voters cannot create a valid substitute ticket by crossing out Oliver or writing Minogue with another running mate.7 These are charges and an unresolved case, not a conviction of Oliver or an allegation of personal wrongdoing by Minogue.10
