Mike Nichols

Nichols is a father, grandfather and fourth generation landowner from Pitkin.

Biography

Mike Nichols describes growing up in Pitkin with grandparents who lived through the Depression, on property that has remained in his family for four generations.1 He and his wife raised four children there, and he recalls a childhood closely connected to the land and water around them.1

He remembers a childhood with a tractor and plow horse, and says his children tease him about his stories of growing up.1 The Louisiana Illuminator describes Nichols as a cattleman and retired biologist with experience in land management and water resources.2 In a November 2025 interview, he described retiring after forty years of federal service and noted that his wife also worked for state government.1

Nichols identifies federal debt and opposition to carbon capture and storage as central reasons for his congressional bid.1 He says fiscal balance is achievable and points to the Clinton years when making that argument.1 He objects to treating such projects as a public use that justifies burdening private property, and raises concerns about pipelines, industrial activity and water protection.1

He is a Republican challenging Speaker Mike Johnson alongside fellow Republican Gordon Heslop and Democrats Conrad Cable and Matt Gromlich.3 Nichols describes his approach as support for accountable government and a sustainable district economy, opposing wasteful spending and development decisions imposed on local property owners.1
