Biography
Nicholas Manganaro's school years combined six years of Latin with a varsity wrestling letter in each of his four high school years.1 He worked to pay for college and took a year away from Reed to earn more tuition money.1 The Haverford resident grew up in Chester County and has two adult children.2
He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Reed and a Master of Science from MIT, where he studied finance.3 Before business school he worked on public utility issues while saving for tuition.1 His subsequent career included work as a Wall Street bond trader, portfolio manager and risk manager, as well as product development.1
His employers included J.P. Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, BlackRock and Glenmede Trust.2 His own investment work has included loans through Property Square Solutions to people buying and rehabilitating houses.2 He has also served as a Republican precinct committeeman.4
He campaigns for a path to a balanced federal budget, spending audits and cost benefit reviews before legislation passes.5 His energy plan favors using oil while developing newer nuclear plants.5 He questions the Iran war's necessity but supports current operations funding and a negotiated settlement.3 He challenges Democratic incumbent Mary Gay Scanlon for Pennsylvania's Fifth District seat in November.4
