Biography
Nirav Sheth arrived from India in 2008 to study computer and electrical engineering, with English becoming his fourth language.1 He says his life here has included homelessness and eventually building businesses in Pierce County, experiences he links to a desire to help other people move out of poverty.1
Between college and business, Sheth served four years in the Marines as an aircraft mechanic and military police officer, then briefly worked as a Lakewood police officer in 2017.1 Public safety is now a central campaign issue: he calls for stronger support for police and fire departments, including equipment and staffing.1
His published safety platform supports funding for officer recruitment, training and retention, directing cannabis and opioid settlement money toward enforcement and treatment, and mandatory treatment for repeat drug offenders. He also favors cooperation with federal authorities to remove violent immigration offenders.2
Sheth advocates more investment in transportation and electrical grid resilience, support for small businesses, and collaboration among parents, educators and communities. He describes legal immigration as a source of opportunity and successful integration.1 Sheth faces Democratic incumbent Pramila Jayapal, a fellow immigrant who supports Medicare for All.3
