Pat Ryan

Ryan grew up in Kingston, with family roots in the Hudson Valley stretching back five generations.

Biography

Pat Ryan's Hudson Valley roots stretch back five generations, and he and his wife, Rebecca, have two young sons.1 He graduated from Kingston High School in 2000, earned his bachelor's degree at West Point in 2004 and completed a Georgetown master's degree in 2013.2

Ryan served in the Army from 2004 through 2009, including two combat deployments to Iraq as an intelligence officer.23 His work included leading a team of intelligence analysts, interrogators and technical specialists targeting al Qaeda leadership in northern Iraq.3 After the Army, he founded Praescient Analytics, a company supplying technology and analysis services to national security customers.3 His 2012 fellowship profile described work with leaders at national agencies and fusion centers in Afghanistan.3

He served as Ulster County executive from 2019 to 2022 and entered Congress through a 2022 special election.2 He now serves on the Armed Services and Transportation and Infrastructure committees.1 In May 2026, he voted for bipartisan housing legislation that became law in July.45

Ryan faces Republican Jackie Auringer as he seeks another term representing the district.6 His stated priorities include affordable healthcare, protecting Social Security and Medicare, reproductive rights and measures to reduce gun violence.1 His office also highlights clean air, water and soil as priorities for Hudson Valley communities.7

Record and controversies

Housing reimbursement complaint

In September 2026, Republican opponent Jackie Auringer filed a complaint challenging Ryan's Washington lodging reimbursements and alleging his primary residence was there; Ryan denied that and identified Gardiner as his home.8 A corrected WAMC report quoted House Administration's top Democrat, Joe Morelle, saying the expenses were reviewed and processed by House officials, rather than describing an investigative finding.9

AI holdings and delayed transaction disclosure

July 2026 reporting examined Ryan's AI investments alongside his support for regulation; his spokesperson said the Socure investment predated Congress by years and he had no subsequent interaction with the company.10 His October 10, 2025 transaction report lists an OnSolve sale dated July 31, 2024, and a December 18, 2024 notification date.11 The office said the company's sale forced the transaction and Ryan reported it when he became aware.10 These dates document a delayed disclosure, rather than establishing insider trading or a voluntary investment decision.11
