Biography
One week in June 1977 brought Ralph Ambrosio three milestones: meeting his future wife, Katherine, at the Mac-Haydn Theatre, appointment to the State Police and acceptance into law school.1 Born in Hudson and raised in Chatham, he served in the Navy, including active duty and Reserve service, between 1970 and 1976.2
After graduating from Clarkson University, Ambrosio joined the New York State Police, serving from 1977 to 1989.2 He earned his law degree while working there and served in its Division Counsel's Office.2 His subsequent work included prosecution in Greene and Columbia counties, public defense and service as an assistant attorney general under Dennis Vacco.2
Ambrosio returned to the State Police as an assistant counsel from 1999 to 2010, then retired into private practice.2 He ran for Albany County district attorney in 2024 and says winning this congressional race would make him an elected official for the first time.3
The Republican challenger to Paul Tonko prioritizes tax cuts, reduced regulation and cooperation between local, state and federal police, including immigration enforcement agreements.3 He also supports broader health savings account eligibility, direct primary care and upfront medical pricing.4 His platform also backs energy production from multiple sources, congressional term limits and voter identification requirements.5
