Biography
Shawn Harris and his wife, Karla, a family physician, met at Tuskegee University and now run a cattle farm in Rockmart.1 They have five sons and four grandchildren, and Harris grew up on his family's farm in Blakely, Georgia.1
After high school, Harris enlisted in the Marines, becoming a sergeant before continuing his education and military career.1 Over forty years in United States military service, he served as an infantry commander in Afghanistan, led a team into Liberia during the 2014 Ebola outbreak and eventually retired as an Army brigadier general.1 His education includes agribusiness studies at Tuskegee and strategic studies at the Army War College.1
In 2021, the National Guard announced his assignment as senior defense official and defense attaché in Israel.2 His political campaigns have included races against Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2024 and Clay Fuller in the April 2026 special election.3
Harris faces Republican incumbent Fuller again for Georgia's 14th District in November.4 He proposes expanding rural medical training and access to care, protecting Medicare and broadening prescription price negotiations.5 His affordability plan also seeks limits on large investors' advantages in buying homes and stronger rural housing programs, connecting his campaign to household costs and local services.6
