Suzie Byrd

Suzie Byrd, of Enid, says she built her own barn house because of her interest in affordable housing.¹ A mother of two daughters and grandmother of two, she grew up in Oklahoma with farming grandparents in the southwest and a father who worked in the oil field.¹

Byrd earned a journalism degree at Oklahoma State University, where she played basketball for one year and ran track for two.¹ She worked as an Enid News and Eagle reporter for almost four years before resigning to run for Congress.¹² She describes reporting on education, healthcare and farmland contamination, alongside a business background that includes owning or partnering in companies in Oklahoma and Florida.¹

Her housing proposals include assistance for people buying their first homes and encouraging new housing models, alongside a living wage.¹ She supports universal healthcare and shifting some defense spending into healthcare.³ She also calls for a fairer tax code and stronger regulation of monopolies, particularly companies controlling food markets.¹

Byrd supports restoring university science funding and legislation protecting severe weather research.³ Asked about data center and AI infrastructure growth, she backed a national pause and urged more research and congressional guidelines.³ She challenges Republican Frank Lucas for Oklahoma's Third District seat.⁴
