Biography
Tony Wied played football at St. Norbert College, where he met his future wife, Angela, during his senior year.1 After earning his business and administration degree in 1998, they settled in De Pere and raised four sons.1 Wied had grown up in Green Bay and graduated from Notre Dame Academy.1
He and Angela built a business operating Dino Stop gas stations and convenience stores around Northeast Wisconsin, later adding Little Caesars restaurants.1 They sold the businesses in 2022, and Wied turned toward politics when the congressional seat became available in 2024.1 He and his family continue to live in De Pere.1
His congressional work has emphasized the concerns of smaller employers, including regulations and cybersecurity.23 His DUMP Red Tape Act passed the House in December 2025 and remains before the Senate.4 It would establish a hotline for small businesses to report burdensome federal rules and require annual reporting on complaints and responses.2 He also sponsored the Cybersecurity for Small Businesses Act of 2026, which would coordinate federal guidance and help smaller employers understand security requirements.3
Wied's reelection message emphasizes lower taxes, stronger border enforcement and reducing waste in federal spending.5 He also highlights bringing federal resources back for local infrastructure projects.5 He faces Democrat Rick Crosson in the November race for Wisconsin's 8th District.65
Record and controversies
Nomination signature challenge
A 2024 challenge alleged that people collecting Wied's nomination signatures misled voters by saying they were supporting housing for the homeless.7 The Elections Commission unanimously approved his signatures, while saying criminal or fraud allegations would require an appropriate sworn complaint before a separate investigation.7 His lawyer said the campaign had not misled voters.7 A later public finding against Wied was not verified by October 29, 2026.7
