Trever Nehls

Nehls and his wife, Kerri, have three children: Madison, Wyatt and Parker.

Biography

Trever Nehls and his wife, Kerri, have three children, and his campaign describes their involvement at Grand Parkway Baptist Church.1 He is the twin brother of Congressman Troy Nehls, whose decision to leave Congress opened the seat Trever is seeking.2

Nehls enlisted in the Army in 1988 and later became an officer, retiring as an Army Reserve colonel after more than 33 years of service.1 His military career included commanding units at company, battalion and brigade level, with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.1 His education includes master's degrees in public administration from Central Michigan University and strategic studies from the Army War College.3

His civilian career included working for the Sugar Land Police Department before two terms as Fort Bend County's Precinct 4 constable.3 He held the constable's office from 2013 through 2020 and later founded Nehls Consulting, combining his public service background with private business work.1 His academic background also includes a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and corrections from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.1 In April 2026, he was appointed chief of staff to interim Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong.4

His platform calls for finishing the border wall, stricter immigration enforcement, lower taxes and fewer regulations.5 He also emphasizes flood protection, mobility and completing and expanding State Highway 99 through the Houston region.5 He faces Democrat Marquette Greene-Scott.6

Record and controversies

Campaign transfer and final FEC disposition

An FEC complaint challenged a $2,700 transfer from Trever Nehls's state campaign account to his brother's congressional effort in 2019.7 His lawyer said a consultant handled the account during his military deployment and that the contribution was refunded in full.7 In 2022, the FEC said Troy Nehls's federal committee agreed to refund or disgorge other impermissible nonfederal contributions and pay $1,150; it dismissed the remaining allegations against the other respondents, including Trever's campaign.8

County staff appointment during campaign

In April 2026, interim Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong appointed congressional candidate Trever Nehls his chief of staff, drawing criticism from his Democratic opponent, Marquette Greene-Scott, at a commissioners court meeting.4 Wong's spokesperson defended the choice by citing Nehls's leadership and government experience.4 In a separate report, the office described the appointment as temporary while a permanent chief of staff was sought.9
