Biography
Troy Balderson grew up working on the family farm, fixing cars and racing bikes in Muskingum County.1 He credits his father with putting a wrench in his hand as soon as he could hold one.1 He graduated from Zanesville High School and later ran the service department of his family's business.2
Balderson still lives in Zanesville and has one adult son.2 Before Congress, he served in the Ohio House and Ohio Senate.3 He entered the U.S. House in 2018 and now serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee.2
In the current Congress, he chairs the House Energy Action Team, a Republican group focused on energy policy, and is vice chair of the Energy and Commerce oversight and investigations subcommittee.2 His stated priorities include expanding American energy production, preparing workers for available jobs and making health care easier to reach in rural communities.2
His health agenda emphasizes telehealth and remote patient monitoring, allowing more care to be delivered without repeated trips to a distant provider.4 He also supports rural broadband expansion and workforce development to address employers' difficulties finding skilled workers.56 In November, Balderson faces Democrat Jerrad Christian for another term representing Ohio's 12th District.7
