Biography

Yolanda R. Prince grew up in Tyler with an older brother and a twin sibling.1 Through her business, she organizes an annual mother and daughter tea that honors her mother's legacy and brings families together.1

Her education includes public administration and public relations at Stephen F. Austin State University and a master's in public administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.1 She is a project manager with Prairie View A&M University's Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center at Smith County.2 The center combines research, professional training and community partnerships aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency.3

Prince's community work includes leadership roles with the League of Women Voters, NAACP and Smith County Democratic Party, according to her campaign biography.1 She has also volunteered with Girl Scouts and Special Olympics, mentored young people and marched in Washington for Voting Rights Act reauthorization.1

Her platform supports Medicare for All, a federal minimum wage of at least $15 and higher Medicare reimbursements for rural providers.4 She also proposes universal school meals and preschool, higher teacher pay and stronger prescription drug price negotiation.4 She also advocates a faster, less expensive path to citizenship, adequately staffed immigration courts and ending the use of private, for profit prisons.4 Prince faces Republican Nathaniel Moran.5
