Zuhdi Jasser

Zuhdi Jasser was born in Ohio and raised near Appleton, Wisconsin, after his parents fled Syria in 1966.¹ He and his wife, Gada, later made Phoenix home, where they raised three children and he joined his father's medical practice before establishing his own center for patient care.¹

A Navy scholarship supported his accelerated medical studies through the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Medical College of Wisconsin.¹ He served for 11 years, including aboard the USS El Paso and in the Office of the Attending Physician to Congress, and participated in the emergency response to the 1998 Capitol shooting.¹

Jasser went on to run a private medical practice and become a conservative commentator on religion and national security.² He founded the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, which argues for separating religion from government, and helped establish the Muslim Reform Movement.²¹

After an earlier congressional primary campaign, he is challenging Democratic incumbent Greg Stanton in the Fourth District.² His priorities include reducing living costs, balancing the federal budget and increasing border security resources, while his campaign has also criticized health insurance premiums under the Affordable Care Act.²³
